        they don't believe in cloning, nor indirect cataloging.
        coupled with that, we have a rather nonsupporting
        security team.

        there's plenty of landmines to be cleared ...

Cat skinning has always been more about result than process, but some techniques are more trouble than others. We never rebuild IPL text on a 'live' sysres, that is, one that will actually be LOADed from. All maintenance is installed on an SMPE-only target volume. IPL text is rebuilt there, then the volume is cloned to a 'live' volume. I can't recall ever having to dink around with the copy itself. That's why I questioned in an earlier post whether the cloning process is set up properly to include the track that contains the IPL text.
