I was going to ask what the benefit was in a single system, but I guess
I see your point.  Although, in today's DASD environments I don't see 
sizing SYS1.LOGREC (or whatever name you call it) large enough plus 
a good fudge factor being a "waste of space" issue.

Another benefit (I think this one is better than the reason you 
stated) is being able to use the free logrec viewer:

BTW, I implemented it when I was consulting here around Y2K to 
simplify logrec collection on all the systems.  One dump per plex and
I combine them to a single daily file.
