We are currently attempting to replace a Z/OS AFP printing solution with PostScript to some IP attached Xerox printers. PostScript has been choosen as it is an IT wide solution involving more than just the mainframe. Presently we have Z/OS 1.4 and I am using InfoPrint (IP Printway) to take the EBCDIC Postscript output from the JES2 spool and send it via LPR to the printer. The same can also be done to ASCII coded PostScript as it appears that InfoPrint does the translation to ASCII for the printer only when required. The Operators are having problems with coping with how InfoPrint functions as opposed to traditional JES2 printers. Normally they would setup a printer with a selection criteria which is a combination of class, destination and forms and it would select the appropriate output from the spool and print it. With InfoPrint as soon as the ouput hits an InfoPrint printer, the out characteristics (class, dest, forms, etc) are used to determine which of the defined printers will be used regardless of how it was selected from the spool. It also appears very difficult to change a destination printer once InfoPrint has decided that it wants to send it to a particular printer.
Does anyone have any hints or experiences on how the Print Operators can retain control over the output in an InfoPrint environment?
