If its a year (or more) there will be quite a bit more research needed, IMO as the number of PTF's needing researched goes up (exponentially?) . A long time ago I had a reason to put on 3 years maintenance for TSO/ e (I think this was in early 1990's) the smprpt was on the order of 200 pages IIRC 80 percent of the issues was a missing PTF. After getting the PTF (some fighting with IBM) the SMPRPT was down to a manageable (IMO) 10 pages. That missing PTF cost me 40+ hours of arguing (and meetings) with IBM. The gist of this is there is no hard and fast rule (IMO) as to how much research is needed. You can say each PTF to research cost x amount of time and I will say I disagree as it really depends on the expertise of the sysprog. Ed
