You could also have broken your post into two separate emails, one off-topic sent to only one person and the other on-topic sent to everybody. Threads go off topic quickly when there are multiple subtopics in a post. I am just as guilty of this as many others. The part of a post that encourages us to go off-topic is the off-topic part.
