This is just a curiousity question. I downloaded JZOS the other day and have it working. Nice. But I wondering if anybody really uses Java for batch processing. I realize that JZOS can be used for STCs written in Java as well. I get the impression that most of the Java usage is for Websphere or maybe even some in CICS. So I have some questions for the audience.
1) Do you use Java as a BATCH language? That is, in a normal JOB? 2) If so, what sort of processing does it do? Any VSAM? DB2? Other database system? 3) Do you use Java for CICS transactions? 4) If so, the same question about what you use it for, as opposed to say COBOL. 5) In any case, how does Java compare to "legacy" languages such as COBOL? Especially in ease of programming, debugging, efficiency of processing (CPU time)? If you want, since this is not completely on-topic, you can send directly to me by clicking on mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] . What I'm trying to determine is if it is worth my while to even bother with learning more about this and, if so, perhaps how to "sell" it to management. My team leader starts yawning when I discuss any of these things. He is convincend that Java is not really worth while on the zSeries. Oh, we don't have a zAAP. That would be another thing that I'd like to try to "sell". To convert our unused IFL to a zAAP. -- John McKown Senior Systems Programmer HealthMarkets Keeping the Promise of Affordable Coverage Administrative Services Group Information Technology This message (including any attachments) contains confidential information intended for a specific individual and purpose, and its content is protected by law.
