No, but MS SQL Server is hardly an application either. Most probably you can
use DB2 or Oracle or a free SQL server just as well; all these are largely
commodity items now.

A customer generally buys z hardware and z/OS because of its perceived
reliability and compatibility, but not all of that is available with Linux
on z.
