I'm one of the few boomers in both my office and the company. While they
like us to be in the office, especially during "core hours", they also
understand that there are times when is easier and more effective to work
from home. With my laptop, I can do just about anything I need to my
systems from anywhere I can get an internet connection and use the VPN.
With a lot going on, taking my laptop along means I can actually take a
vacation. "Working" a little every day means I can take a vacation or day
off without using all my vacation days.

The GenX/Y group still don't quite understand how somebody like me can
update and maintain those old mainframes without having to be there do
actually do the work.

Tom,

Our GenX+Y replacements use IM for that purpose. It seems to work well for
them.
