Daniel,

I hope you are using the OSA-ICC redbook to help you get yours working. It
can be found at
http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg246364.html

I had a look at what it said about the TN3270E client. It goes as follows:

<quote>

2.2.4 TN3270E emulator planning

...

TN3270E emulator program support for the OSA-ICC function

The OSA-ICC function complies with TCP/IP RFC 2355 TN3270E Telnet Option.
There are currently two Telnet TN3270E (not TN3270) emulator program
products that explicitly support the OSA-ICC function:

IBM Personal Communications (PCOMM) V5.6 and later supports TN3270
Extensions used for OSA-ICC support. PCOMM is a component of the IBM Access
Client Package for Multiplatforms program suite. For more information, see:
http://www.ibm.com/software/network/pcomm/
Many PTFs are available for currently supported PCOMM releases, for the
TN3270E function, and especially for 328x emulated printer support. For more
information about PCOMM service updates, see:
http://www.ibm.com/software/network/pcomm/support/

IBM Tivoli AF/REMOTE V1.0.0.106 and later supports TN3270 Extensions used
for OSA-ICC support. For more information, see:
http://www.ibm.com/software/tivoli/products/af-remote/index.html

Other TN3270E emulators may work with the OSA-ICC function. If you choose to
use another TN3270E emulator, we recommend ensuring that the product vendor
provides software support for the emulator program. Avoid using freeware or
shareware programs with no software support.

Note: We highly recommend that you apply the latest software maintenance
available for the PCOMM version and release you are running in your OSA-ICC
environment.

Note: AF/REMOTE does not currently support the 328x emulated printer
function.

Note: IBM supports only Personal Communications (PCOMM) V5.6 for Windows (or
later) and IBM Tivoli AF/REMOTE V1.0.0.106 (or later) for use with the
OSA-ICC function.

I expect this lines up pretty well with the announcement material.

What this all means is that, if you have a problem with OSA-ICC operation,
you had better know enough about the TN3270E protocol - as defined in RFC
2355 ( http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2355.html ) - to be able to determine who
is at fault: OSA-ICC or your TN3270E client vendor - and you can so
overwhelm "level 1" and probably "level 2" with your expertise that they
take you seriously. The sentence to ram down their throats is "The OSA-ICC
function complies with TCP/IP RFC 2355 TN3270E Telnet Option."

Even if you use PCOMM or AF/REMOTE as your TN3270E client, you may get into
a similar position but escalating within IBM will finally locate someone who
will lead you out of the "no man's land" between the product barricades. I
was once there between IMS and the 4700 when the protocol involved was SNA.
:-(

Nevertheless, as Radoslaw said, any good TN3270E client will probably
suffice and that may well include free ones.

Chris Mason
