John, IIRC, if Dataset X has not changed, DFSMSdss will not change either the changed bit or update the last referenced date during a DUMP operation unless RESET is explicitly coded.
If one assumes that is correct, what happens from Day 15 on, is normal behavior. What I am told is happening is the following: Day 1 - dataset X gets created Day 13 - dataset X is dumped to tape using DFDSS's logical dataset dump processing. Day 15 - dataset X is being migrated by DFHSM Day 25 - dataset X needs to be redumped using DFDSS as in Day 13, but is no longer on disk and so is not dumped. On day 25, the tape created on Day 13 is also scratched by the process involved. Day 30 - want dataset X at D.R., but it is not on the offsite tape. I am confused. I thought that the DFDSS would updated the "last referenced date" in the VTOC on day 13 and so DFHSM would not migrate it. Where is my tired brain going wrong? Note that I have not validated any of the above, but I do trust the people who are reporting the situation.
