I think for the last 2 years before I was involuntarily let go, I could 
have been a 1 man z/OS shop.  Of course, once we decided to get off the 
mainframe, we didn't do anything.  I would have had to learn a little 
about CICS and networking, which I haven't done much with, but I'm sure 
I could have done it.  A lot of smaller companies stay out of date with 
their operating system level and maintenance, and could easily be run 
by 1 person.  I wouldn't want to try to keep everything up to date with 
one person though.
