Brian, Running HSM audits on a regualar basis IS a good idea. We were burned a few years ago (thankfully not on a Production plex) and since then have instituted a policy of 'no backup, no migrate' so that there is always a second copy of the data somewhere for recovery. As well, we run audits on a daily basis - we use the FastAudit product from Mainstar as the native audit just runs too long.
