Is there some indication that it will not improve performance on non-IBM
DASD?

As I understand it, the whole issue of MIDAW support on EMC and other
non-IBM boxes was a timing issue. The control unit is unaware that
MIDAWs are in use, but the use of MIDAWs changed the timing of certain
channel events, and EMC was not prepared to handle it until the
microcode upgrade. So having MIDAWs enabled on some systems and not on
others should be transparent to the box.

I believe that currently the only exploiter of MIDAWs is DB2 so unless
you have DB2 data in the EMCs it may not make a difference. But I also
believe that on IBM equipment at least, MIDAWs make a noticeable
performance improvement.
