G'day Rex, The Hitachi RAID300, RAID400, RAID450 and RAID500 hardware is the same for HDS/HP ..
Here is a table of comparison models. XP256 RAID300 DKC310 7700E (Enhanced) XP512 RAID400 DKC410 9960 XP48 DKC415I 9910 XP1024 RAID450 DKC460I 9980V XP128 DKC465I 9970V XP12000 RAID500 DKC510I TagmaStore USP (Universal Storage Platform) XP10000 DKC515I TagmaStore NSC(Network Storage Controller We (HP) just change the door panels and add some software (dialhome monitoring stuff) to the SVP inside the XP. HP has very good working relationship with the factory and input into the microcode generation process just as I'm sure HDS do. A company the size of HP obviously has some good Open-Systems, FC and SCSI nous that Hitachi would find useful, so I'm sure it is collaborative. HP writes all kinds on SAN management and Performance Management software (Commandview XP, Performance Advisor XP etc .. ) for the XP and other arrays... But the core software that runs on the XP for things like data replication (Trucopy, Shadowimage, HUR, Flashcopy etc... ) is the same when provided by HP as that provided by HDS, just given a different name (to confuse people like me and Ron) and a different manual. IMO (and in my experience), the deciding differentials between all IT hardware on this scale is rarely technical, but financial ... that is why re-sellers exist. Cheers.
