'Humility'? Anyone entering a new field has perforce much to learn from some of its experienced denizens, but humility should be short-lived.

No good programmer I have every known was at all humble, and the great ones were/are well aware of their abilities, even [some few of them] arrogant about their skills.

Nothing much is ever achieved without radicall intellectual curiosity, a need to know how things work, and high ambition. The mules who transport visitors to and from the bottom of the Grand Canyon of the Colorado perform a valuable function, but it would be a mistake to consult even the most experienced of them about the archeology or geology of the Canyon.
