  According to my reading of Prinicples of Operation, that is the case
only for Basic PC.   Are you not using a Stacking PC?

You're right. My amode(31) stacking PC can get control from an
amode(64) caller (dagnabbit), which means I have to check my caller's
amode before using/mucking with the parameters. sigh...
