"So Long and Thanks for All the Fish" was the penultimate book in the
super-enhanced trilogy HHGTTG, book Four of Five of the trilogy++.

This is why the movie begins as it does with dolphins performing.

Earth was indeed destroyed, but as all good programmers do when working
with large important computer programs and hardware, there was provision
for a back up.

Good planning on the mice's part.

(See, the mentioning the backup part brings this close to being
mainframe related as the Earth was a large computer and humans were part
of the program to figure out what the ultimate question was to which
"42" was the answer.)

My your skies be free of Vogons,
Peter

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
By the late Douglas Adams

The last in the series was (IIRC):

So Long, and Thank You for all the Fish

In that one, they discovered that Earth had not been destroyed after
all.

Others:

42!

The answer to the meaning of life and everything else.

When in doubt.
PANIC!!
