Yikes!. The APAR (against 5752SC1B4 -- i.e., allocation) describes, in detail, the problem scenario, impact, and verification steps without a single mention of JES3 until the problem summary at the end. This leads me to wonder if a vary online of an already-online tape device can introduce this problem regardless of how the vary is initiated. Also, it's not just z/OS 1.7 that appears to be affected. PTFs are being issued all the way back to HBB7707 (z/OS 1.4)!
In any case, don't forget to pass this information along to the folks reading JES3-L! Many of them don't subscribe to IBM-Main because of its sometimes poor signal-to-noise ratio, especially as the end of the week approaches.
