If you have toleration PTFs (OA07875 and OA8197) on the z/OS 1.4 system you
can access the IODF in READ only mode. i.e you will be able to IPL, but you
will not be able to update from 1.4. You might want to double check
mentioned APARS.
The recommendation though is you do not convert the IODF until all systems
are at the 1.7 level.

I've updated an IODF on z/OS 1.7, I had to convert it to version 5. If
I store the IOCDS and IODF's from 1.7, will a z/OS 1.4 LPAR be OK?
I hadn't planned on really needing to make these changes, I can do them
over again under 1.4, but it's Friday.....
