Yes, and MVS can do things better than other platforms. I don't want to get into bashing, either. But, I challenge anybody to find, warts and all, an OS that can out-perform, out-secure, out-scale z/OS. When was the last time you re-IPL'd z/OS in your shop? Re-Booted UNIX? Windows? Admittedly UNIX is lasting longer, but windows? Is have the latest version of XP (professional at work, the home-game at home), and I am still booting at least once a day. (And patching at least twice a week). Yes, z/OS has its flaws and holes, but which would you rather tow your tracter trailer with? An 18-Wheeler work-horse, or a Ferrarri? They both have the same horse-power. (There's another about a 100 chickens or one ox) Yes, z/OS implements the POSIX standard with some gaping flaws. Yes, it is user-surly. Yes, it is proprietory. Yes, it is mis-understood by management. But, it is robust, secure and reliable. So, instead of constantly bitching about it, accept it or move on! In my case, it pays the bills, the child support, and the spousal. It has problems that drive me around the bend (CF: the TCP/IP issues I mentioned a couple of months ago), but I can live with them. I have been a windows admin (when there were a only a few PC's in my department), but I'd rather be z/OS'ing. When in doubt.
