Not war, just awe. When I saw my first 1403 in 1976, it took me a long time
to accept that the box of paper in the back could possibly have been blank.

My favorite Printer War Story occurred when we installed a 3800 (to
supplement our impact printers which were then to be used only for
multi-part Carbon Paper type forms). Someone asked how much faster it
was than the impact printers. The joking response was that the Impact
printers were rated in Lines-per-Minute while the 3800 was rated in
Miles (of paper) per Hour. The fun thing about comparing the actual
speeds of the two technologies (such as in how long a box of paper
would last) is that with the 3800 so long as you keep it feed with
printing to do, you have a fixed time while with the Impact Printers,
the Print Chain/Train as well as how many lines you printed per page
and the number of characters on the line came into play (ie: The best
you could do to message the duration of a box of paper was use an
average).
