Rogers Not knowing what APPN is does tend to support my guess that your SNA networking man/woman - or team - was "let go" and maybe some time ago. (That's why I added the dates to the relevant redbook references below.)
One quick guide to APPN can be found on pages 8 to 12 - in comparison to page 7 - of Gwen Dente's[1] presentation, the reference kindly supplied by Mark. Additional references for serious, "over many days", reading are the following redbooks, the first two being the practical ones and the third theoretical: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg244656.html (1998) http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg245204.html (1998) http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg243669.html (last update 1997) Those first two redbooks will explain what is meant by "enabling APPN in VTAM". It could be described, once you had decided on the APPN role that each individual VTAM would perform, simply as specifying the NODETYPE start option. There are however many, many other issues to consider which, as I said before, require a deep understanding of the two types of SNA architecture supported by VTAM (and NCP, if relevant). You will also need extensive testing time and those tests should cover each of the VTAM-supported applications over each of the network paths used to access them. I hope I have "fleshed out" Mark's warning somewhat. From your first post I got the impression that you expected implementing Enterprise Extender would be just a matter of a few additional definitions - which is true if your VTAMs have already been enabled for APPN. Chris Mason [1] I guess if I performed enough research, I could discover why she made a fuss about ***NOT*** covering CCL as the 3745 replacement. This is a bit odd - and maybe a bit sad - since she "fronted" CCL promotion not so long ago. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Laine, Rogers" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Newsgroups: bit.listserv.ibm-main To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, 18 August, 2006 2:13 PM Subject: Enterprise Extender Requirements on z/OS > > Chris, > > 1.
