I agree! With Cache, PAV, buffers, faster DASD, you don't need that stuff anymore. Also, you don't need separate Index and Data Storage Groups, either. I (if I can blow my own horn) have written an introductory article about basic SMS: March 2006: "SMS: The Discipline" http://tinyurl.com/j4d8o I call it basic because it's only about 1,000 words. That won't get you very far. But, my basic premise is you don't need any more that 8 Storage Groups. (Again, it's only opinion -- the best one out there! Mine!) When in doubt.
