From: "Hunkeler Peter (KIUB 34)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I haven't put a lot of effort into this yet, but I need to go to ISPF option 0 and activate a workstation connection before I can use it to edit/view on the PC. What option am I missing that makes your ISPF automatically connect to the WSA upon login?
There are several ways to initiate a workstation connection. For example, you can go to ISPF option 0 (as you suggested), or enter WSCON on any ISPF command line, or enter an IP address as part of ISPSTART (i.e. so a connection occurs automatically as soon as ISPF starts).
As a SimpList user, I personally don't use any of the methods I just mentioned. Instead, when I initiate any type of action that requires a workstation connection, SimpList automatically establishes a connection for me. For example, let's say I'm in a DSLIST or a member list and I decide to transfer some of the data sets or members I've just finished editing. I reselect the data set(s) or member(s) using 'N' for traNsfer (which means I need a workstation connection), so if I don't already have a connection SimpList automatically establishes one and then proceeds with the transfers.
In a similar way, if I'm in a member list and I select members using 'E' for Edit, they open on the workstation. If I select them using 'V' for View, they open on the mainframe. This is based on how I've set my personal preferences. But if I select members using 'O' for Override, they always open on the mainframe, regardless of how I've set my personal preferences. Again, I never have to worry about where a member is going to open or whether a workstation connection exists or not, as that part happens automatically.
