I guess you haven't checked in a while, Steve!  Fundamental Software has 
had ESCON support since December 2004. It works in two directions:
1. You can attach ESCON devices to the FLEX-ES box, and
2. FLEXCUB (Jan '05) enables the FLEX-ES box to appear as dasd control 
unit to the mainframe
