Speaking of bombs on board airplanes, the earliest one I can remember was a  
United Airlines plane blown up over the Grand Canyon in 1956 - bomb in a  
suitcase belonging to a suicidal passenger.
And re carrying a bomb on board:

The shoe bomber Richard Reid had 10 ounces of plastic explosive in each of  
his two shoes, according to a "U.S. official."  So Reid carried two  bombs on 
board a plane.
