Back when MXG Software was distributed on a tape, they were
created as NL, so there was no DSNAME to mis-spell when you
went to read the tape, and back then all users were sysprogs
with NL read authority. The IEBUPDTE to read the tape and
create the PDS took under a minute.

So when I received a call that a new install site's operators
had cancelled the job after runs of 14, 15, and then 17 hours,
and the job still hadn't completed, it was most puzzling,
until I had him dump a few blocks of the tape he was reading,
and we discovered that his tape security folks would not let
him read NL, so they converted my tape from NL to SL, and,
changed my LRECL=80,BLKSIZE=32720 to LRECL=80,BLKSIZE=80,
which dramatically increased the run time.

When the tape security guru was asked why, it was because
"a while a go we had a problem copying a tape, and that
worked, so we've always done it that way.".
