Thanks. I kind of thought that was the answer, that an IPL will fail if the IODF is in multiple extents. I know that early in the IPL there isn't a lot of smarts to handle extents, as someone else pointed out.

But still, no one answered your original question, which leads me to believe that there is no such option to keep a copied dataset to one extent.

Yes it does. At least production IODF. Otherwise IPL will fail. BTDT.
I don't know any official IBM manual, but ES96 course clearly mentions such requirement.
