IBM Mainliners, Does shared SMS absolutely require GRS? Since the ACDS and COMMDS are VSAM is that the only way to share them? (In one z800 with independent monoplex lpars.)
The shared DASD volume with the SMS control files will need to be an SMS managed volume. (Shared!) I found a definition in: z/OS V1R3.0 z/OS DFSMS OAM PISA for Tape Libraries SC35-0427-02 At: http://www.mainserver.state.mn.us/bookmgr- cgi/bookmgr.exe/handheld/BOOKS/IBMBK.Z6DFSMS.DGT2O311.BOOK/%43%4F%56%45%52? SHELF=IBMBK.Z6CMDS.EZ2CMZ51.BKSHELF&DT=20020827134102 "SMSplex. A group of one or more systems that share a common set of SMS control data sets: the active control data set (ACDS) and the communications data set (COMMDS)." So, will we need to make our "island" monoplexes into a Sysplex to have shared SMS and shared HSM? Must it be a Parallel Sysplex?
