"Disabled veterans" and "veterans" get preferential consideration for
all federal civil service jobs.  Used to be "disabled" got 10-point
preference and "non-disabled" got 5-point preference; don't know if it's
still that way.  At least one state gives "must-hire" preference to
"disabled" vets, regardless of qualification or suitability for a
particular job, or leave the position vacant.
