Neither Frank, nor IBM, nor anyone from Syncsort is likely to say this, but
my PERCEPTION is (and has been for the last couple of DECADES) that as far
as "functionality" goes, the two products tend to play "leap-frog", that is,
that whatever one introduces, the other provides a comparable feature within
the next couple of releases.

Therefore, if you look at a "snapshot" of what they offer today, the chances
are pretty good that there MIGHT be some "obscure" feature that one has but
the other doesn't (possibly even something not so obscure), but that if you
look at that same feature in two years, they both will have it and some
thing else will be available in one, but not the other - with no guarantee
as to which will be first.

In GENERAL, the same is also true about "performance" of the products, but
that may take LONGER for the "trailer" to catch up with (and surpass) the
current leader (and this usually happens only for a relatively small type of
SORTs).

OBVIOUSLY,
   YMMV <G>
