Hello list
I get this request from a user
I'm looking into ways of pushing out files written from Datastage on USS
to Windows servers. FTP functionality is not available from within the
product, so we'd have to write a FTP script to push the files onto a FTP
server. On Linux I've successfully used Samba to increase the flexibility
of this approach by allowing us to push files onto Windows shares
regardless of whether they're also running an FTP server. I've done a bit
of reading on the internet and it sounds like Samba is an implementation
of a common protocol SMB which appears to be supported on z/os USS - do
you know if this would work on our environment?

This sounds like they want a SAMBA **client** on the z/OS box. As far
as I can see DFS does not support this.
Does anyone know if there is still a freeware SAMBA port for USS???
(or are there other obvious solutions I am missing?)
z/OS does support being a SAMBA server, but not a client. The Window
box could be the client reading from the mainframe share.
If z/OS was the client and Windows was the server you could have
problems is by chance the Windows box was down when this job was submitted.
