Just to clarify, Oracle Database 10g certainly does operate as a server database on both Linux on z and z/OS (in case anybody was wondering). In fact, Oracle's first two platforms for the Version 10.2.0.2 (the current release) were z/OS and Linux on z. Installation is indeed "Oracle standard" which is to say that it's unlike anything else. No SMP/E on z/OS, for example. This can be distressing. However, I think I read something about being able to bypass the X display requirement if you use a 100% unattended/scripted installation. Maybe somebody knows more about that. There are a pair of IBM redbooks published that provide a lot of information on Oracle 10g running on System z.
