Mr Yoon: thank you for taking the time to give us this insight. IMHO, here is a key point. This was a well thought out business project. The extensive benchmarking tells me that their due diligence included all of the relevant issues.
This was an expensive project to be sure. It so happens that the application suite, skill sets, and business mission were better served by the target platform rather than the z suite. Indeed, most argue that selection of a solution starts with the business need, then selection of a software suite but best fits that need. The platform is often dictated by the selected software suite. First of all, we did not embark on this project purely from a cost perspective. Of the three main criteria for our success - reliability, performance, and cost - the financial aspect was the least important. If, through our 18 months of benchmark testing of the various solutions available for rehosting, we felt that the reliability and performance was not viable, this project would have died a quiet death. ..snip..
