Thanks John.
All the doc I've read say's support is withdrawn in 1.7. What did I miss
? What will happen in 1.8 if you attempt to use a one-byte console id ?
<snip>
To be more specific, the macros, etc., that support 1-byte IDs in
R6 do not support them in R7. So you can't assemble anything new
using 1-byte IDs, and you can't use them in commands, but
existing code that uses 1-byte IDs continues to run in R7. In
R8, existing code using 1-byte IDs will fail outright.
Here's the text from the R7 Migration book with some [comments]:
"Description: z/OS V1R7 is planned to be the last release to
support 1-byte console IDs. With z/OS V1R7, support for 1-byte
console IDs and external interfaces supporting migration console
IDs were removed from the WTO, WTOR, and MCSOPER macros, and from
operator commands. Programs compiled using older versions of the
macros will continue to work. [This is what I meant.] In the
release following z/OS V1R7, however, all 1-byte console ID
support is planned to be completely removed. [So it's in R8 that
existing programs using 1-byte IDs will fail.]"
Just run the 1-byte console ID tracker described in the Migration
book to identify programs that use 1-byte IDs. If you find any,
modify them or contact the vendor to get them changed.
