I agree with Shane on this one. There is absolutely no need to replace
the mastercat with every upgrade especially if you are using indirect
cataloging. It took me 1 day to download, and run through the 1.8
Serverpac dialogs. I'm now in process of reworking and applying
usermods. The one thing I would really like to see as an option is to
NOT be forced to use SSA's. If it were, me, I would like to see the
allocds job allocate the targets and dlibs but not catalog them(with the
exception of the OMVS and SMPE work datasets, which need to be cataloged
and uniquely named). Then the restore job restores data to those
datasets using a vol=ser= reference. I know SSA is safe, but I'm afraid
I will clobber my real datasets by accident. That is more closely how
I do my install, slightly deviating from the normal serverpac process.
At my installation, I do not catalog the smpe targets or dlibs. That
way I KNOW no one is using them by accident or otherwise.

Dave

Folks, you really (I mean *REALLY*) want to look at using SU.
If you have a decent cloning procedure it saves a lot of (IMHO
unnecessary) screwing around compared to a replacement.

Waaayyyy more usable ....
There are (potential) problems as John points out, but-all-in all, it's
the way to go.
Not to say it doesn't have warts, but they is smaller warts.

Shane ...
