We have that setup for some of our RTDs.
z990 chpids <===> CD-9000 (ESCON director) <----> tape transport (SILO)

STK VSM EA ---------+
The VSM EA is not usable by MVS. It is connected to the ESCON director,
with the VSM configured to KNOW which port the tape transport is connected
to.
But the majority of the VSM RTDs are direct connected - EA to transport.
