I guess I always thought that it was easier to to use shift left to
get the desired return code.
In any case now for 20+ years its worked fine why change it?

Just curious as to why that is. I know the IBM unix people don't play
(all the time) by the MVS world, would it be a good thing to try and
create a SHARE requirement to do so (play be the rules)?
