What would make it easier would be to follow Internet[1] conventions.
Start with an attribution line, skip a line and then as many times as
needed:
Quote text, with a leading >
Skip a line
Type your response to that snippet of text.
Skip a line.
Keep your word wrap below 70 so that when someone quotes your message
the expansion of > to >>, >>>, etc., doesn't get too large.
At the end, the signature delimiter should be "-- " (dash dash space)
on a line by itself.
Now, some brain dead software makes it difficult to quote properly,
but massive use of all caps is considered rude. If you're lucky, your
e-mail software will let you cut and paste from the original message
without doing all sorts of wonderful things for (to) you.
[1] The old BBS conventions were better, but that's a tale for
another day.
