Eric We've had some "Ellis Island" discussions in this thread but I thought you were by now a thoroughly naturalised citizen of the "land of the free ...". That being so, you are obliged to spell words with the "-our" ending as "-or". You didn't say which dictionary you used but I happen to have a thoroughly American Webster's[1]. There such words are spelled with the "-or" ending followed by "or chiefly Brit." and the word with the "-our" ending.
Folk who follow my posts very carefully may note that I make a point nearly always to include one such word to provoke delight when the dumb Microsoft spelling checker flags them as invalid. Maybe I should get out more. Incidentally, for complicated reasons, my Window software is the American English flavour - there I did it again. <g> Chris Mason [1] Famously "Morocco bound" as related by Bing Crosby - or was it Bob Hope? - maybe both. I confess I "retained" it when moving from one of employment location to another and, well, I still have it but it's only - fraying - cloth bound. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eric Bielefeld" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Newsgroups: bit.listserv.ibm-main To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, 31 October, 2006 5:09 AM Subject: Re: Apology > I just looked it up in the dictionary, and you can spell it either way. > > Eric Bielefeld > Sr. Systems Programmer > 414-475-7434 > Milwaukee, Wisconsin > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Dave Kopischke <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > >you didn't make any spelling errors doing it like I did!
