Perhaps in ASCII mode, which no longer exists. Certainly not in EBCDIC
mode.

Anyone who has spent a significant time looking at dumps of application code will verify: quite often, instruction streams can be confused with data areas, just because of the respective contents. We've all seen situations where names are imbedded in the instruction stream, in expansions of LINK, LOAD and XCTL macros, mostly. Only experience and practice will help here. Is that name in a LINK macro expansion? Or is it the DDNAME field in a DCB?
