The most recent reference I could find to the 3480 A22 and B22 was announcement letter 305-028 dated March 8, 2005 quoting new prices for maintenance. This same letter quoted maintenance prices for 3420 (round) tape drives as well, so perhaps "end of service" for 3480 is not as near as you might have thought.
