Thanks, Craig.

The JSAB control block is job - not step - related. Therefore, the IAZXJSAB
macro does not return current step dates and times. It only returns job
start time.

There are 2 fields in the JCT, JCTSSD and JCTJMRSS, that appear to contain
the current step's start date and time. Are these fields good for the data?

Either JSABESTK or JSABXSTK in the JSAB I believe.

However, my reading of
<http://publibz.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr_OS390/BOOKS/IEA2D350/118.0?S
HELF=IEA2BK51&DT=20040623161835> [z/OS 1.6] is that this control block is
not GUPI. There is, however, a macro to obtain the information you request,
IAZXJSAB "Obtain Information about a Currently Running Job"
ELF=IEA2BK51&DT=20050114161656> [z/OS 1.6].

Should I be reading anything into the presence of documentation in the
Authorized Assembler Services Reference for services which do not require
authorization? From the "About this document" section...

"Some of the services included in this document are not authorized, but are
included because they are of greater interest to the system programmer than
to the general applications programmer. The functions of these services are
of such a nature that their use should be limited to programmers who write
authorized programs."

Is this intended to be a hint that someday I will be unable to use these
services unless I am running authorized?

Which fields in which control block contain the currently executing step's
start date and time?

Thanks,
Jerry
