The State of Texas has an interesting history with IT. About one and a half years ago the State finally built a data center in San Angelo to house all the different department's mainframe computers. At least this step addressed some of the environmental costs of operating a different mainframe for each department as opposed to an LPAR each on a BIG mainframe. Prior to this each agency had its own data center.
However, you can rest easy knowing that the State has its priorities straight. The DR plan for the state mandates that the Texas Workforce Commission will be the first agency operational in the event of a disaster so they can start printing unemployment checks as quickly as possible.
