Nice! Thanks. Better than the PTO's search; better than the patent search
that IBM put up some years ago, and then sold off.

It does indeed find software patents.

The problems, as the post I was replying to noted, are 

- If you're not a patent expert, it's tough to read a patent and understand
what it covers.
- Just searching patents will not tell you what has been subsequently
invalidated by court action. They don't remove a patent from the database
just because someone has demonstrated that it is not enforceable.

I see where google has just released a search facility to search
patents. 
This would, presumably, include software patents(?). Search seven
million 
patents and be sure:
