It depends.
It is possible to do it (not necessarily using DITTO), however the data
could become unusable. Maybe some applications expect data to reside on
those old volsers. Maybe some of datasets are cataloged, probably
everything is recorded in your TMS (tape mgmt system).
The most important thing is to reflect data movement in those databases.
