It has been repetedly explained by IBMers at the RACF forum that, even if RACF 
in z/OS 1.8 is prepared to handle this new type of authentication called 
"passphrases", none of the current IBM applications support them (CICS, TSO, 
etc.).

So, to fully exploit passphrases authentication, we will have to wait for some 
years.

In 1.8 pass phrases (aka long passwords) can be up to 100 characters.
