As you point out with fire extinguishers, frequency of use has nothing
at all to do with value. Fire extinguishers and insurance policies are
things that come to mind. Vendors like us depend on VPL at worst to
avoid crashing customer systems, and at best to deliver useful new
product functionality that works correctly in your environment. We don't
need to be leering at it every day, but when you need it...

This is one of those classic Dilbert moments where you just KNOW there's
some pointy haired bozo somewhere inside IBM thinking he's just pulled
off a major cost saving coup. The worst of it is that the same
knucklehead will probably get promoted and be out of that position
before the fecal matter strikes the revolving air movement device.
