I think I've worked out why the OSA and VTAM manuals "suggest" that the name
of the TRLE statement is unique per operating system instance.
The name is stored in OSA storage associated with a particular LPAR - as the
VTAM manual stated. It appears in the output from an OSA/SF QUERY CHPID
command. The QUERY CHPID command is a very handy tool when you want a
formatted display of all the information held in OSA storage. It's one of
those things you wish you had set up when you get a problem to solve because
things aren't quite working as you thought they should.
Now if my arm was twisted - quite a bit - I might be persuaded to say that
the TRLE statement name is "needed" in order to identify the LPAR associated
with an "Address Table". However I'd quickly wrench my arm away and protest
that the "Address Table" was quite sufficiently well identified by means of
the LPAR number and name.
Here's the output from the QUERY CHPID command "Address Table" from a
document I happen to have:

You can see that the care with which I have inserted the pair of SYSCLONE
variable characters into TRLE name cannot really be said to be contributing
a great deal to the identification of the applicable LPAR. My TRLE names are
OSAT1A0 and OSAT2A0 in case that's not clear.
Incidentally, the fact that you have got it working is great but I wonder
what was wrong with your definitions before which caused you to send in your
original post.
