Well, since I didn't start this very OFFTOPIC discussion, I feel free to ask why anybody would upgrade to Vista? Or any other version of Windows? I've been 99.9% Windows free at home (on Linux) for a couple of years now. I will grant that I am not the most advanced PC user around. I use OpenOffice.org for my word processing and spreadsheet needs. I've even used the database function in OOo. PostgreSQL works great for a relational database. Firefox is a great browser. Xine (with the appropriate codecs and libdvdcss) will play all my DVDs (but I prefer watching DVDs on my TV using a normal DVD player). I can play all my MP3s. The only thing that I find difficult is "streaming media" (aka Web-radio stations). And I can even do that if the streaming host uses the correct server. The only thing that I cannot do is TurboTax. So I fire up my Win2K on a 1 Ghz PIII to run it once a year. If it ever goes unsupported, then they lose a customer and I go back to doing my taxes by hand. I'm perfectly willing to pay for proprietary, closed-source software if it fits my need. Luckily, Windows does not fit my need any more for the majority of what I do at home. I don't really play any games. If I did, then I'd buy a console to do it. -- John McKown Senior Systems Programmer HealthMarkets Keeping the Promise of Affordable Coverage Administrative Services Group Information Technology The information contained in this e-mail message may be privileged and/or confidential.
